It's All Sun and Games Until Somebody Gets Burnt

According to the CDC, sun safety couldn’t be more important, especially during the warmer months when outdoor activities are in full swing.

Whether it’s long afternoons in your poolside paradise, an extra round of golf, or a picnic in the park with popsicles for everyone, summer activities are exciting and fun. However, all that time in the sun can be harmful to your skin and health.

Before you head out to enjoy your favorite summer activities, make sure to grab your sunscreen, protective clothing, and stay hydrated. Remember, it’s all sun and games until somebody gets burnt.

Why Is Sun Safety Important?

From sunburns to skin cancer, the risks associated with excessive sun exposure are significant.

The sun emits ultraviolet (UV) radiation, which is responsible for sunburn, premature aging, and skin cancer. UV radiation can also damage your eyes and weaken your immune system, making it harder for your body to fight off infections and illnesses.

Sunburn is a common and painful consequence of unprotected exposure to UV radiation. It can cause redness, blistering, and peeling of the skin, making it difficult to carry out everyday tasks. Sun exposure also increases your risk of skin cancer, which is the most common type of cancer in the United States.

We all want to have fun outside, but your health needs to come first. By being proactive about sun safety, you can still enjoy your favorite summer activities while protecting yourself.
